HOW IT WORKSThe draw takes place on Friday, December 16. In the last 16, group winners play runners-up - but teams from the same group or nation are kept apart. From the quarter-finals on the draw is open.
OH, AND BY THE WAYWelcome to Manchester, the home of Europa League football. The draw for UEFA's second-tier tournament takes place an hour later.
The eight teams who came third in their Champions League groups qualify as seeds for the knockout stage.
They are: Manchester City, Manchester United, Trabzonspor, Ajax, Porto, Valencia, Olympiakos and Plzen.
They join the top two teams from each of the 12 Europa League groups.
